is there any way to reduce sebum production of the skin on the face?
Sebum (skin “oil”) is produced by your sebaceous glands and serves to waterproof, protect and moisturize your skin. One of the factors involved in excess sebum production is the presence of testosterone and other and similar hormones. There are a few drugs on the market that can help, although the only one that can be prescribed to men is Accutane (isotretinoin). This is a drug that’s been proven to be far better than just about anything else at clearing up stubborn or disfiguring acne (it works, in part, by shrinking the sebaceous glands), but it’s not something to be taken lightly; there are many safety issues. Women with overproductive sebaceous glands can also consider some forms of birth control pills or spironolactone, which is a diuretic (water pill) that is usually used to treat heart disease. These work by helping to regulate the effect of testosterone and similar hormones.
