Is there any way to obtain paid leave under the FMLA?
The FMLA only covers unpaid leave. You can elect to take accrued paid leave (such as vacation time or “sick days”) for part or all of the FMLA leave period. When accrued paid leave is substituted for unpaid FMLA leave, the employer may count it against the 12 week FMLA leave period, if the employer notifies the employee of this at the beginning of the leave period.
