Is there any way to convert mp3 files into midi files?
Basically, an mp3 file contains real, recorded audio. A MIDI file is just a sequence of instructions telling a player what notes to play, a lot like the little metal roll inside a music box. There are programs that attempt to convert pre-recorded sound into MIDI data, but they only work well on individual melody lines, not full song mixes. MIDI files of commercial songs are created by musicians and engineers who are skilled at re-interpreting a song into MIDI form, and it’s not a process that can be done automatically. A midi file can contain eight or more individual tracks with different instruments. A stereo mp3 file contains only two tracks with multiple instruments mixed down from the original multi-track recording. They cannot be separated into the individual tracks required by the multi-track midi format nor can the mp3 format be accurately converted to midi format. I believe the 1.3.11 version of Audacity has a convert to midi function but the above explanation applies.
