Is there any way to avoid the penalty for breaking an agreement?

Yes. A student who can find a replacement for their agreement (not their room) may avoid the penalty per section 9 of your housing agreement. You will have to find another student who does not currently have an agreement with University Housing and ask them to assume your agreement. The student can be male or female, and can sign an agreement for any University Housing community, so they do not have to take your room to be able to take over your agreement.
