Is there any use for Ceramic Rings in canister filters?

I have seen some members asking and wondering about use of Ceramic Rings in Canister filters, thought have separate tread and discuss it here. Ceramic Rings has no use at all if you use any filter but Eheim classics, it rarely use as mechanical media perhaps very big piece of plants that should not even get there but it meant to distribute water evenly for passing thru other trays and always must be the first tray at the bottom of Eheim classic filters, just an inch of it will do, nothing more as it only waste the space, that is all. For other none Eheim classic canister filters, get ride of ceramic rings completely and replace them with Bi-Media as they serve no purpose. Yes you can wash ceramic rings under tap water as almost nothing but over the surface could accommodate beneficial bacteria. Just to be clear, Ceramic Rings are USELESS IF you are NOT using it with any canister but Eheim classic (i.e. 2217), reason is Eheim filter especially classic models (i.e. 2217), are very simple
