Is there any strong relationship between an open business model and open innovation?
The strongest relation is that the companies that invest hugely in technological innovation often lack any process for exploring alternative business models to commercialise the results of that investment and it is there that I see the connection most powerfully between the two. It is important to realise that the flexibility, adaptability and ingenuity comes from the chosen business model and that these are important factors for the success of open innovation. Is Indian business conducive to open innovation? Sure, there is a great deal of opportunity to take the enormous ingenuity in human capital in India and unleash that not only at home but on the global economy. With the opening of the economy to the outside world, innovation has now become much more valuable and there is an opportunity for India to capitalise on its advantages in this field in a big way.
