No, there is an electronic loop sensor that can be turned on and off on the D1070 and D1080 models. The loop sensor looks for material and tells the Diamond-10 that there is material and it is safe to run. This is especially important when running with printers that have automatic back feeds before and/or after printing a batch of labels.
