Is there any side affects from smoking the plant called salvia?

Salvia divinorum (Diviner’s Sage) or colloquially by its genus name Salvia is a psychoactive herb which can induce strong dissociative effects. Short term side effects include loss of conscious awareness while getting up and stumbling around (involuntarily), and terror. Long term side effects are unknown, but probably minimal. Salvia contains a chemical substance called salvinorin A. Salvinorin A is responsible for Salvia’s mind-altering effects. It is not chemically related to any other psychoactive drug. Unlike most visionary compounds, it is not an alkaloid. One should be particularly cautious about combining salvia with other drugs. As is the case with most drugs, some combination’s may interact in unexpected and possibly negative ways.
