Is there any provision for consistency in marking between various classes?
The Department of English has prescribed median marks for 100, 200, and 300-level courses. The median mark is that which has an equal number of marks above and below it. The median in any 100-level or 200-level course or section should be about 71, and that for a 300-level course should be about 75.5, subject to a variance of +/- 3 points: a 300-level course, for instance, may have a median from 72.5 to 78.5. Exceptions to the median may be made in special cases (e.g., where there is a very small class) with the permission of the Department Head. Please note that these medians apply to course marks only: the marks on a particular assignment within a course need not conform to the median.
