air to air intercoolers are only effective because they cool the compressed air from the turbo or supercharger on a normally aspirated engine as there is no compression of the air all the intercooler will do is restrict the air flow ( but you know all this as you say) so you would need a huge air dam that is actually going to create a large surface area to scoop the air.
