Is there any point in arguing about semantics?
Semantics have helped Japan dominate world commerce for years, France to win every peace conference, and Gordon to make useless but good looking sound bites. The devil is in the detail, as the folk saying goes, and semantics define the detail. Yes, there is a point, because by arguing semantics you refine and clarify what is being said, and all parties understand what has really been said and meant.
