Is there any pastoral training locally?

In many there’s less than we would like. The demand from teachers continues for training in aspects of pastoral care and PSE, but the provision often isn’t there. This is because funding issues, political pressures and staffing trends have often led to a narrower focus in training provision. Places to look for training: • your local Institutions of Higher Education (some of which are listed at NAPCE links page.) • your LEA’s advisory team • NAPCE conferences and regional groups ( NAPCE conference/workshop information along with other pastoral events are listed at NAPCE Events.) • commercial in-service agencies and consultantsFor newly qualified teachers, funding is provided to schools to support training as part of their induction programme. When the needs are identified, they could clearly include needs for training in pastoral aspects and PSE.NAPCE would be happy to consider working with local organisations to meet an identified need. Please contact the NAPCE base.
