Is there any movement by the Postal Service to “go green”-utilize solar energy or retrofit existing facilities?
Energy savings are very important to us. We’re leading the effort at facilities headquarters. We are under a federal mandate to reduce energy consumption by 30% by 2015. For the first time, we have an energy program in our budget of $150 million to become more energy efficient at our facilities. Q: Postmasters are supposed to call the FSSP (Facilities Single Source Provider) hot line to report maintenance issues. How can absentee landlords receive calls faster so we can use our own vendors to get the job done? A: It’s tough for us to change. One region has postmasters call Landlords directly. If Landlords have a good relationship with their postmasters, we may need to reconsider our present policy of not letting postmasters call the owner directly about maintenance issues.
