Is there any major downside to using refurbished golf balls instead of brand new ones?

I buy Links Choice refurbished balls, either from Meijers, Wal-Mart or Dunham’s. The only ones I’ve seen personally are the Titleist Pro-V (they sell V1 and V1x together), Nike One (Black and Platinum) and Taylormade TP (Red, Black and Burner) packs, thought they also offer Callaway HX series and Bridgestone B330 series (330 and 330S) series from online sources. The only weird thing I’ve seen is one Pro-V1 had some of its cover ground (about the size of a button), to make it smooth after a club bit into it… but that was only one in about 40 or so balls. Maybe I’m just lucky, I don’t know, but I’m not complaining. Point is, if you buy from someplace reputable, you’ll be OK… maybe not every time, but enough to make the purchase justifiable. Besides, it’s also a cheap way to find out which ball is right for you, without spending a lot of money on the experiment.

What is your question?
