Is there any legislation associated with water minimisation?
A. There is legislation associated with some aspects of water minimisation. This mainly concerns water abstraction and discharge, water fittings and water quality. The environmental regulator is the Environment Agency in England and Wales, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency in Scotland and the Environment and Heritage Service in Northern Ireland. Hardcopies of the legislation identified below can be purchased from The Stationery Office. Most is also available electronically and free of charge from the HMSO website. Copies of the Byelaws 2000 (Scotland) are available from Scottish Water. The following list of legislation is not exhaustive. Legislation changes frequently and may vary between countries. You should always check legislative requirements with the Water Regulations Advisory Scheme (WRAS) or the appropriate regulator.
