Is there any guidance available on disability discrimination and fitness to teach?

0

Yes, Initial teacher training (ITT) providers must make sure that they do not discriminate against disabled applicants or trainees in selection procedures, requirements for progression and completion of training or in the provision of services. Under Requirement 1.4 of Qualifying to teach, ITT providers must also ensure that all entrants to ITT have met the Secretary of State’s requirements for physical and mental fitness to teach as detailed in the relevant circular. Sometimes, there will be a need to make difficult and complex decisions about a person’s fitness to enter teacher training and to help with this we have published some guidance. Printed copies of the guidance can be ordered free of charge by calling 0845 6060 323 or by e-mail from publications@tda.gov.uk, quoting TEA0287 as your reference. Alternatively, you can download the documents by following the link on the right.
