Edwards Continues Streak of Voting to Protect Wasteful Spending BRYAN, TX – Last week, Texans were again able to see the latest example of Congressman Chet Edwards’s (D-TX) continuing recklessness with the spending of taxpayer dollars and growing our federal debt. His actions continue even though he attempts to call himself a “fiscal conservative.” House Republicans launched a program called YouCut, which allows Americans to vote (online and via cell phone) on spending cuts that Americans want to see enacted. Each week, Republicans will introduce a vote to cut spending on the specific program that the American people select. After more than 280,000 votes, Americans chose to cut the new, non-reformed welfare program (annual cost of approximately $2.5 billion) which increases states’ welfare caseloads. This program also reverses welfare reforms enacted in the 1990’s and removes the requirement that welfare recipients participate in job training programs or end their reliance on taxpayer
