Is there any evidence to support that Constantine used Christianity to unify Rome with a single religion?
Constantine was a follower of Sol Invictus, who converted to Christianity by a rather slow and erratic process, as opposed to a sudden enthusiastic total conversion. None the less, “throughout his rule, Constantine supported the Church financially, built basilicas, granted privileges to clergy (e.g. exemption from certain taxes), promoted Christians to high office, and returned property confiscated during the Diocletianic persecution”.
