Is there any easy-tool for the calculation of cold-formed steel structures in Europe?
In USA there is the Prescriptive Method which allows designing a simple cold-formed steel structure in a simple way by means of a series of tables. In Canada, CCSBI offers also tables for the easy design of cold-formed steel members. However, these methods cannot be directly extrapolated to the European case, due to the differences between the relevant design codes. With this idea in mind, Arcelor Research Liège in collaboration with Bureau Greisch elaborated a European Prescriptive Method based on Eurocodes. The method allowed designing simple steel houses of 1 or two-storeys by means of tables and abacuses. Currently LSK is participating with several European partners in RFCS Dissemination Project TR: RFS2-CT-2007-00028 WiSH: “Worpack Design for Steel House”. As a result of this project the WiSH method will be launched: this method will be an easy-tool for the design of cold-formed steel houses which is, indeed, an actualized version of the European Prescriptive Method but more user-
