Is there any difference in the expected duties of a JAG officer in the different branches?
Primary duties of all JAGs in all branches is legal duties. They are all essentially the same, but there are various legal jobs for each branch that are branch specific. For example: NAVY – maritime law, Air Force – space/satellite/missile type areas of law. Other person was right that Marine JAGS are a bit different in that you are expected to be a Marine first/lawyer second. All branches are similar, but the Marines seem to take that more seriuosly in theory if not practically. Three ways to become a JAG officer: Go to undergrad, go to law school. Have better than average grades/scores and come in with a direct commission; or, Go to undergrad/ROTC. Get an education delay to attend law school and apply to the JAG corps after law school. Go to ROTC/Academy. Get a commission, apply for the funded legal-education program (FLEP) while working as an officer in some other job (MP, infantry, armored, etc) and the military will send you to law school on their nickel and you then leave your ol
