Is there any difference between the quality of cane in Punjab and Sindh?
EH: Sugar cane in Punjab is better in quality than in Sindh. But we are now bringing the Punjab variety to Sindh in our own farms in Tandu Alhah Yar. We have our own farms in Tandu Allah Yar on about 500 acres of land. We multiply the seeds and distribute it among the farmers. We give them better variety so that the recovery is better. KPDC: Do you think Ethanol is the future of industries? EH: Oh yes, indeed. There are about 14 to 15 producers of Ethanol in Pakistan. Each one of them produces 20 to 25 thousand tons. There is about 590 US$ of foreign exchange earning capacity through Ethanol. We have now started value addition by converting Malaises to Ethanol and we have exported this year about, 6.2 Million US$ with joint venture with 2 other exporters. This year we are going to produce about 25 thousand tons of Ethanol. Mehran has exported about 4.2 Million tons of Sugar.
