I guess they would like you to think so but all discs conform to the recording specifications of the Orange Book, Part II. To some extent media manufactures design the chemical process to reflect the recorder speed. These differences are mainly in the proprietary chemicals used in the manufacturing process. For practical purposes all blank disks should work in your recorder.
