Is there any cure for asthma or just treatments?
Currently there is no cure for asthma, similar to most chronic diseases. What happens is that a massive imflammatory response occurs in the airways of the patient in a response to some stimuli, because the airways are hypersensitive to certain triggers. In a sense, asthma is similar to allergic responses, and the effect is locliased to the airways rather than, say, a skin rash. As a result the airways become occluded and the person has difficulty exhaling their used air to make way for new air, because of the pressure gradient changes that occur in the thorax follwing the asthmatic response. It can be very well treated and controlled to allow sufferes to lead normal and healthy lives, as long as they are sensible. I myself have an occasional exercise induced asthma, and so I don’t go running outside when the air is very cold, an instead run on the treadmills at the gym so that the air is warmer and doesn’t trigger a reaction. Other than that, I have no problems at all.
