Is there any cure for allergic rhinitis?
There are different levels of treatment for allergic rhinitis. At the lowest level, you have symptom control. Whenever your allergies flare up, you take medicine — Allegra, Benadryl, Flonase, or whatever else works. As the allergies subside, you stop the medicine. Then you have maintenance control (this is where I am). If you do not have active symptoms, you take a daily dose of some maintenance meds. Usually this will be a nasal spray, sometimes the maintenance control includes some type of pill (for example, some people take Claritin every day). Maintenance keeps your symptoms from coming back. Then you have the attempted “cure”. Go see an Allergist and they will do some extensive skin testing to see what specific allergies you have, then start some immunotherapy to reduce your body’s immune response to it. This is your most expensive option although if you have good insurance you may not have to pay too much.
