Is there any connection between Embry-Riddle and the events and aftermath of Sept. 11, 2001?
At this point, any published connections have proven false. The university, right from the start, fully complied with the FBI and other law enforcement authorities. We continue to cooperate with the FBI as it sorts through multiple identities, thousands of leads, and possible clues. An Embry-Riddle alumnus, initially identified as one of the terrorists, was found to be alive and well in Morocco and was thus cleared of being a hijacker. We did learn that one of our 1983 aeronautical science graduates, David M. Charlebois, was the first officer on board American Airlines flight 77 that struck the Pentagon. We also know of several relatives and loved ones of Embry-Riddle students, faculty, and staff who perished in the attacks.
