Is there any circumstance under which the Co-op would keep the store at 22 S. Van Buren?
That depends. The fundamental need is to obtain a larger facility that is out of the floodplain, and we know that the current site cannot meet that need. However, it’s possible that, once a potential site for a new facility is identified, the plan could include keeping the Van Buren site open as a scaled-down satellite location, offering deli and convenience grocery items. Naturally, proximity will be the largest consideration. If a new store is located further out on the edge of downtown Iowa City, then it may make sense to consider retaining Van Buren in a limited capacity.
