Is there any beaches near Texas A&M University (College Station)?
Texas A&M-Galveston is on the island of Galveston. While many in Galveston proclaim to be surfers, the surfing action there is poor. Rarely, it is surfable, usually due to tropical storm activity. Something to look into that is unique in the surfing world and exists in Galveston Bay is wake surfing. When large ships navigate the stretch of the Houston ship channel near Galveston, their wake rolls over shallower water creating a very long, rolling wave that lasts for quite a considerable distance. Imagine surfing a wave that lasts for ten or fifteen minutes. The wave is not very tall but is very surfable and very long. The surfers are taken out to the area in a bay boat and when a ship is creating the right type of wake, the surfers go for it. I have no firsthand knowledge of this but saw it in a newspaper article in the local Galveston paper and on a news story from a TV station out of Houston. It appears that this is known to some surfers worldwide and they will come to Galveston just
