Is there any available IV compatibility information for sodium iodide?
Sodium chloride is the placebo solution and sodium iodide is the active solution. They are chemically very similar and in very dilute solution so there will be minimal effects on osmotic load etc. This in effect means almost universal compatibility with most standard solutions used in the neonatal unit and the I2S2 solutions may be added to any other solution that is being administered to the infant. For instance the trial solutions are compatible with TPN; in Dundee for instance the TPN is added to the giving set burette and the trial solutions introduced in the same way that other routine supplements are given (such as additional sodium chloride for hyponatraemia).
