Is there any additional benefit if Euro V diesel is used in non-Euro V engines?
The sulphur content in Euro V diesel is significantly reduced as compared with that in ULSD. According to EPD, a small portion of the sulphur dioxide in diesel vehicle exhaust will form sulphates, which are in the form of particles. So, the reduction of sulphur content in motor vehicle diesel will reduce the emission of particulates. Replacing ULSD with Euro V diesel as fuel can reduce the particulate emissions (in terms of sulphates) of existing diesel vehicles by 5%. Older engine technology inherently has higher emissions than new, advanced diesel engines. Some of the physical properties of Euro V diesel, like lower back-end boiling points can help reduce smoke and particulates from older engines. Euro V diesel will have a better effect on older vehicles installed with catalysts and particulate traps. According to EPD, the sulphur content in motor vehicle diesel will reduce the effectiveness and durability of diesel oxidation catalysts. At present, a considerable number of diesel veh
