Is there another way to fix an underbite that doesn involve surgery?

Have you seen an orthodontist? If your underbite is less than -2mm and surgery is recommended, I would see another orthodontist. If one has told you you need surgery and it’s the only option, I would see another orthodontist. It depends if your problem is skeletal. Did the orthodontist tell you, you had a Class III skeleton along with Class III molars and canines? If not, you could possibly be treated with an appliance to bring your upper jaw forward or lower jaw backward. Extracting teeth could possibly be a solution (on your lower arch) but that depends on your bite. Get two or three opinions. Orthodontists treat differently. You may be more confused but if all said you are a mandibular setback or maxillary advancement surgical patient, you know surgery is the best option for you. If you get conflicting treatment plans, then the one saying nonsurgical treatment for you could be the one to select. Grill this one for answers concerning long-term dental health consequences for you. You

I can’t see your underbite, but if it’s “very small,” I imagine you could gain some correction with braces. I hope that you asked an orthodontist’s opinion before asking on Yahoo! Someone would have to actually see you to really answer this question.
