Well, those are lofty standards to live up to indeed. Stafford, an ex-Highland Park starting quarterback now with the Detroit Lions, was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft out of Georgia. This spring coach Randy Allen will be looking for a starting quarterback after standout Luke Woodley left for Louisville. The race for the starting quarterback job is between incoming seniors Jake Howeth and Preston Edwards and incoming junior Brady Burgin. Allen said that Howeth and Edwards, however, won’t participate in spring football because they’re playing for the baseball team. Allen said that Howeth is one of the team’s best runners. Howeth was used in short-yardage situations last year and started at free safety. Edwards subbed in late in the year in some games, and Burgin was primarily the junior varsity team’s quarterback last season.
