Is there an out-of-the-box social networking solution?
Seeking complete social networking software solution – a la Myspace, Facebook, etc. I have a couple of social networking ideas I’d like to try out, but I really don’t want to spend a couple of months building out the basics of a social networking website. I want an 80% solution out of the box, and the ability to customize extensively from there. I’m willing to purchase the software. Not necessarily into the ‘on demand’ stuff like PeopleAggregator, but I’m open if someone wants to make that case. What do I want? I want user profiles, open source (not necessarily free; ideally PHP, but open to other interpreted languages), groups/mailing list (a la Googe Groups or Yahoo Groups -> this is a big one), ‘friends’, blogs, Digg-like clone (Pligg), rss feeds. I know some stuff comes close – maybe Pligg – maybe Drupal / Joomla / Xoops. The only hangup I have about Drupal and others, is that their templates / framework stuff all seemed a bit hokey to me – I don’t like the thought of building cust
