Is there an official CITES position on the use of wireless technology for accessing UIUCnet and campus network resources?
CITES recognizes the convenience that UIUCnet Wireless access provides but is also deeply aware of its limitations. For as far as we can see into the future, hard-wired connections will be faster and more reliable than what wireless technology will provide. If you have a choice of using a hard-wired or a wireless connection to UIUCnet, we will almost always recommend using the hard-wired connection. That said, the security and reliability of wireless technology have improved to the point where you should not “be afraid” of using UIUCnet Wireless service.
