You need to have a valid driver’s license from your home country when you drive with an IDL. You must apply for an IDL in your home country. IDLs issued in Canada are not valid in North America. If you wish to drive a motor vehicle in Ontario, you must obtain an Ontario Driver’s license. If you have an International Driver’s License, it is valid for one year if you are a tourist. However, if you are a resident of Ontario, it is valid for only ninety days.
