Is there an easy way to make vanilla extract using vanilla beans?
Vanilla extract can be made by steeping a vanilla bean in an alcohol such as vodka or brandy. Fill a small glass jar almost full with alcohol and add one or two split vanilla beans, depending on the size of the jar. Store the mixture in a cool, dry place and let it steep until the liquid darkens and absorbs the flavor of the beans, from one to six months. Strain the extract before you use it.
