Answer Jan, There are many different policies regarding PTO and vacation. Yes, some companies do offer vacation during the first year. As for tracking, an HRIS system is typically the way to go, but if you company does not have the means to invest in a solution because of size, then maybe a procedure for requesting and tracking (using Excel or a database program like Access) is a solution to consider.
