Yes, students are only allowed eight (8) unexcluded absences per semester. An excluded absence includes a funeral, court date, extended illness with doctor’s note, or college visit. Parent phone calls to report absences are considered excused absences and these absences still count toward the total amount. If a student exceeds the eight absences, they will receive a maximum grade of 55 (F) in each of their classes for that semester. Attendance letters for students in jeopardy are mailed home and parents with questions should contact their child’s dean of students.
