Is there an anticipated date in mind for the completion of Inga 3, the Grand Inga?
There have been talks about Grand Inga in international forums, and now there are funding talks. The African Development Bank is undertaking studies that could lead to the accomplishing of Inga 3. We are now in the study phase. If the next year is dedicated to project studies, then the construction phase should follow shortly after. Will the construction phase involve private partners? In the nearest future, South Africa will be faced with an energy deficit. All countries involved in the Inga project are interested. We are not sure yet as of where exactly the funds will come from, but what is sure, is that all South African banks are interested. Egypt as well, for they want Inga to quickly reach Calabar, in Nigeria, to then establish a connexion with a line that will go all the way to Alexandria.
