Is there an age requirement to get a tattooing license in California?
I have never heard of an age requirement. I got a tattoo done by a 16 year old guy once, in a shop and he was licensed. Go talk to a tattoo artist in your town and see what they know, i f they don’t know much I am sure they can tell you where to find out. And who knows maybe you can get an apprenticeship out of it.. My buddy’s bro is 17 and he is an apprentice…Good Luck!
There is no such thing in California as a Tattooing License. Most shops, even at 18, will not hire you because, quite honestly, it seems to be the youngsters that are just doing it to be cool, and just don’t have a whole lot of faith that you’ll stick around (not saying YOU in particular wouldn’t, however, most DON’T). You MIGHT find an apprenticeship at 18, but there are also no classes available that will properly teach you to tattoo… nor are there learning requirements. In regards to tattooing legally, counties in California may or may not have standards, however, OSHA does slightly regulate – stating that if you are a body mod practitioner, then you need an autoclave and single use needles at all times. They also require you to take a course (usually through the American Red Cross) on Bloodborne Pathogens and Cross-Contamination. This teaches you the basics on keeping both yourself and your clients safe.
