Is there an age limit on people who wish to foster or adopt a child?
There is a lower age limit of 21 for adoption. There is no legal upper age limit. However, Local Authorities and the courts generally agree that there should be no more than 40 years in age difference between child and adopter. This does not preclude people over the age of 40 applying to adopt older children. Foster Care is more flexible, and age might be relevant dependent on the age of child and planned length of placement.
