Additional Pension Benefits for Surviving Children In systems which have not elected to accept the provisions of chapter 55 of the acts of 2006 as amended by section 3 of chapter 64 of the acts of 2006, a yearly additional pension in the amount of $312.00 will be paid for each surviving unmarried child who is under the age of 18 or who is over said age, but physically or mentally incapacitated from earning on the date of the member’s death. After July 5, 2006, for members of the State Retirement System, the Teachers’ Retirement System and any other system electing to accept the provisions of chapter 55 of the acts of 2006 as amended by section 3 of chapter 64 of the acts of 2006, the yearly amount of the additional pension payable for each eligible surviving child will be the same as the amount payable to surviving children of accidental disability retirees.
