Starting with the version 1.8d 2000a “level set” release of LISTSERV, announced and made available on 5 May 2000, LISTSERV contains a configurable MIME attachment filter that will let you bounce or strip MIME attachments. The filter is configured on a list-by-list basis by using the new Attachments= list header keyword. (There is no site-wide override.) See the level set release notes for information on how to configure Attachments=. Note carefully that Attachments= works only for properly-configured MIME attachments. It will not strip or filter (for instance) uuencoded files that are simply cut and pasted into the body of a posting. The only way to reject such postings would be to use the pre-2000a workaround of setting the Sizelim= list header keyword to reject mail more than a specified number of lines in length, which can have the side effect of rejecting mail containing binary attachments (assuming the attachments push the length of the mail over the number of lines you specify; i
