Is there a way to save the username and password for automatic login via openvpn?
We are working on a system to replace username and password authentication completely. But it might take little more time. Till then you could try this program http://vpngui.basj.org/openvpn/vpngui/ to save the password. It requires .Net framework 3.5. This would at least not require you to enter username and password every time. The other option is to compile openvpn and enable save password option.
