Is there a way to make using the nose suction bulb less tramatic for your child?
Pedia Care Gentle Soothers are the way to go if you have a super congested baby. My 1 year old son is also traumatized by the nose suction, so we try to avoid it at all costs (although sometimes it is a necessary evil). The Gentle Soothers plug in to the electrical outlet and emit natural decongestants into the air. They are also great for nursing mommies who don’t want/can’t take over-the-counter meds when they’re sick. Vick’s rub for infants has also been a lifesaver for us, although we only put it on his back to avoid him touching it and then touching his face/eyes. Good luck!
LOL I wish! I think every kid hates this. If not the suction itself, they probably hate being held down. There’s really nothing you can do – it’s helping her and you need to get rid of that stuff. Both my husband and I usually do this – he practically sits on her and I hold her head, sometimes patting her forehead and talking to her to try and get her to calm down somewhat. But it’s for such a short time, and doesn’t really hurt them as long as you’re doing it properly, and it’s for their own good. I think at some point they reach a certain age (my son did this, anyway) where they just give in because they realize “Hey, I can breathe now!” 🙂 PS. If you use it in conjunction with the saline drops (which they hate even more, BTW) or even after a hot bath, it will help to dislodge some of the gunk and make it easier to get out!
