Is there a way to get files back after you have done a total system restor?

A system restore should not delete or alter files, other than those you changed after the restore point. A system restore does not involve reformatting the hard drive, or erasing files that were on the drive already, except for those you added after the restore point you used. It may undo changes you made to those files, but should not delete the files themselves.
