MasterWorks has a built in “Vectorizor” that does just that – it traces raster (bitmap) images by detecting color changes to create vector (scaleable) artwork segments. This vectorizor is used when you select the Auto ArtWork Wizard, or the AutoDigitizing Wizard. The Magic Wands also trace the part of a raster image you click on when you open it as a backdrop. There are also conversion programs which automatically trace raster graphics (jpg) to create vector data (wmf). You can find these programs by doing a web search using your favorite search engine. Use the keywords “convert raster to vector”. Read carefully to make sure the program will trace the raster image to create the new vector image, and not simply export a vector file type containing only raster data.
