Is there a way Mozilla can notifiy me of a new email – when I am browsing and WITHOUT the mail program being open?
Yes, there is: Look under “Edit” -> “Preferences” -> “Mail & Newsgroups” and check “When new messages arrive play a sound”. Mozilla will then play the (Windows) default mail sound. If you want to have a visual alert, check “Show an alert”. This will do two things: a) A mail (envelope) icon with a little flag shows in the systray just like it did with Netscape 4 mail notify. b) In addition, a small alert window will appear just above the systray, saying how many new messages you have. If you click on the alert window, it will open the mail client and take you directly to the folder in which the new email has arrived. In order for this to work, you also need to check the option “check for new messages on startup” and “check for new messages every [x] minutes”. You can find these last two options under your mail account settings (“sever”)in Mozilla mail, i.e. not under “Edit” -> “Preferences” -> “Mail & Newsgroups”. One more thing to keep in mind: Unless you use Mozilla’s password manager
