Is there a viable alternative to public sector hospitals?

I think the solution must lie with public sector hospitals. Despite such a deplorable situation, public sector hospitals are the only option left for the vast majority of the people. Private sector hospitals or the NGO hospitals are not their option. The reason is very simple. Private sector hospitals and clinics whether they are NGOs or fully private are all expensive. For the vast majority they are not accessible. At least 50 per cent of all the patients who visit the Dhaka Medical College Hospital should not even go to there. They could have easily been treated in their local government facilities that is the Upazila hospitals, district hospitals or in the primary care centres. Only the difficult cases should be referred to a DMCH. So, if only the difficult cases or the cases that really need the expert advice would have been referred to the DMCH, patients would have at least got better advice and treatment.
