Is there a uniquely Muslim version of antievolutionary Creationism?
To say that there is a uniquely Muslim version of creationism is to be misinformed on many arguments that Muslim creationists happen to make. Several Muslim creationists, particularly Turkish creationists like Harun Yahya or Mustafa Akyol, have adapted material from Christian creationist organizations like the Institute for Creation Research for use in an Islamic context (see the article by Sayin and Kence in this website’s Articles section for more information). Objections made by these authors misunderstand the theory of evolution, the development of the theory and its use by biologists, and its implications outside of biology. For example, many creationists (Muslim and otherwise) follow their Christian counterparts in charging that the theory of evolution is “materialist” and hence denies the existence of Allah and the soul.
