Is there a trick to wallpaper removal?

I never heard of the fabric softener trick, but it kinda scares me as I would think it would soak into the walls and keep the paint or future wallpaper from sticking properly, as it is a bit oily. Oils are great at breaking down glues, but you have to think ahead. There are commercial products available, but none are any better that plain vinegar. Here’s the trick- You have to rough it all up to get it to soak in fast. Buy what’s called a Paper Tiger. It’s just a skritchy thing that roughs up the surface to let more fluid in. Work in patches. Rough up a spot and soak it with vinegar. Then rough up the next patch and spray that with vinegar. By then, the last patch may be ready to scrape. if not, rough up another patch and soak it. Stop occasionally to rewet the areas. Bottom line, it’s a lot of work, but do this and you will develope a system and by the time you’re done you’ll be the fastest paper stripper around.
